Camping trip #2 of 2009

Camping at Ansel Watrous site 1

It was raining when we got there, so we had to just wait a bit before we could put up the tent. We put the wood under a tree to keep it dry, and then covered it with the tablecloth. The rain only lasted about another 30 minutes and we walked around while the ground dried out.

This is the new tent that we have. It is all locked down for rain in this picture.

These are the fantastic site hosts this year. Harry and Martha. Harry loves the kids and gives them rides on his trike. Those dogs are a riot too, they ride with them everywhere! We miss our friends David and Elaine, but we adore Harry and Martha!

We always bring our hummingbird feeders along, because we love to watch them. They are so cute! I have a movie and a picture on my other blog site -- go have a look when you are done here.

On Saturday morning we went on a hike up Young Gulch. There are many river crossings, so it is not boring in the least! The kids like this hike a lot.

Here they are at one of the river crossings.

Elayne with her new pink CamelBak she got for her birthday!

The kids found this beaver dam in the gulch.

After our short hike, we had lunch. Edward was not feeling well, so it was a VERY short hike.

Everyone helps clean up. There is a "washer," a "rinser," and a "stacker." Then we can all rest together! Mom and dad clean up the food and the table.

Edward's sinuses were really bothering him, so we made him a saline wash. It is terribly uncomfortable during the process, but he said it relieved the pain and cleared up his nose. He did this about 3 times a day while we were there and felt a ton better. I am grateful that he was willing to do it.

Sunday afternoon while we were playing by the river, Elayne said, "What are those deer things mom?" She had spotted two, young, bighorn sheep drinking from the river! Of course I didn't have my camera down there. By the time I got back they had walked farther up the hill, but my telephoto still got them a bit. Without a tripod, they are still a bit blurry, but you get the picture :).

Here he is walking up farther.

Here he is looking right at me!

Monday morning, Tonja took time for solitude prayer. It was fantastic!

Here she is down by the river.

Isn't it beautiful? Just like the creator - His splendor and majesty surpass all understanding.

~~~
During Tonja's solitude time, Edward and the kids went down to the beach and had a little Middle Earth war.
Here is one such battle about to ensue.
Here is Ethan with one army.
After lunch, we packed up and were ready to come home, but the kids wanted to swim one more time in the river. We have never before said yes to this - wet suits in the truck on the way home, etc - but for some reason we did.
It was a GOOD thing we stayed. As we were coming back from the river (remember we were going to leave over an hour before this), a lady named Shelley in the campsite next to ours was trying to raise a shelter awning. Tonja went to help, and Shelly got her foot caught in the rope hanging from the awning. Shelley fell and was cut on her face and head by the sunglasses she was wearing. We were the ONLY people in the entire campground (Monday is the hosts' day off and they had gone into town). All of the other campsites were vacant. Shelley has bad knees and could not get off the ground on her own. We helped her up, gave her Advil, bandaged her head, and Tonja drove her to urgent care in Fort Collins (in Shelley's car). Poor Shelley!!
Before urgent care.
She needed 7 stitches on the bridge of her nose and 3 on her forehead. What a day! We are all just glad the Lord kept us a bit longer. Praise God!
